2016. You've got big shoes to fill. I'm not sure if it's possible to beat last year, but it's off to a great start! Connor and I have big plans for this year, and we'll be sharing them along the way.
Connor and I were both off work on New Years Day so we planned a full day to celebrate the new year. We slept in and had a QT breakfast on our ride to Westminster. We love to hike and explore Oconee county mountains and waterfalls. Brasstown Falls has been on my list for a while, so we figured we would spend the morning in the woods. When we got to town we realized the only restaurant open was Subway, so we grabbed a couple of sandwiches and began the drive down a dirt road to the parking area for the falls. There actually wasn't much of a hike to enjoy, just a muddy trail that led to the middle falls. From there we could see over the top of the lower falls, and we decided to hike back up to the upper falls which were much more impressive. There isn't a path to the upper falls, so we crossed over the creek on a fallen tree and followed the sound of water until we found them. We were the only people out there, so we enjoyed a moment of solitude just watching nature's beauty.
On the way home we stopped by my parent's house to drop off some baked goods and ate dinner at The Smoking Pig in Williamston. As Clemson alum, TSP holds a special place in our hearts, but who wants to wait over an hour to eat BBQ? Well, I'm sharing my secret with all of you - there are two locations. The exact same food but half the wait! I was so relieved to see their "open" sign on New Years Day, so on the way back to the truck we decided to eat there every year. Yum! To finish the evening, Connor and I went to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I had never seen the previous movies, but I really enjoyed this one, and look forward to seeing the original films.
We're ready for you, 2016!
