We really wanted to hike, but it was raining for the tenth day in a row so we decided to walk around downtown instead. We started out in West Asheville where we visited Whist, a locally owned card and paper shop, and Flora, a florist with a garden boutique. In case you didn't know, I really love succulents and air plants so we spent a good deal of time in Flora picking out goodies to take home. Next we drove to Lexington St and parked in a downtown garage. From here we were able to walk to any restaurant or store front that we wanted.
After perusing a few shops we stopped for lunch at Mayfel's. My fancy grilled cheese and fired okra were delicious, and there wasn't a single bite of Connor's shrimp po'boy left. This restaurant's food and atmosphere reminded us a lot of Tupelo Honey, and we will definitely be back to try the beignets!
Once we were sufficiently stuffed we started walking back to the car to head home. On the way we spotted Double D's Coffee and Desserts which is located in an old double decker bus. This place was so unique we had to stop and check it out. When you walk onto the bus the bottom level has a drink cooler and a cashier's counter with all of the kitchen equipment located behind. We ordered a slice of cheesecake to split and took our dessert up to the second level, which had 6 tiny booths to choose from. The bus was a little claustrophobic, but such a neat location for a coffee shop.
Connor and I really enjoyed loafing around Asheville and we're already planning a trip back so we can visit the Biltmore Estate and go horseback riding.
