What's in a name? Over the past few weeks, I've been thinking about starting my own small business. My products are succulent gardens and terrariums, but I needed to come up with the perfect name. A name to catch your attention and represent what I am selling. After searching the Thesaurus, I decided "Sprout" was perfect. BUT, after I searched the internet for businesses called "Sprout," I found that there are tons of them. A cable network, farmers market, social media management, organic foods... the list goes on and on. To be honest, I felt defeated. How was I ever going to get recognized if customers couldn't find me? I went back to the drawing board and decided that I needed to elaborate on "Sprout." A simple "What rhymes with sprout?" Google search proved very helpful. I made a short list of words I thought I could work with: doubt, drought, and clout. "Doubt" proved to be more difficult to work with than I thought, so it was scratched first. Since I am selling succulents I thought I would be able to develop some sort of catch phrase around the idea of how my plants were hardy and could survive any drought, but my eye kept getting drawn back to "clout." I decided to look up the official definition of "Clout," and what I found was "a strong influence, muscle." Hmm. Aren't succulents the strongest of plants? They can survive hot temperatures, little precipitation, and if they perish they will regrow the next spring. Alas, a word I could work with! Sprouts with Clout is a backyard business I have created to sell my garden creations. I really enjoy selecting succulents and arranging terrariums, plus finding beautiful containers at antique stores to house them in. I've got a handful of planters ready for new homes, and you can see pictures and prices on my new facebook page. Check it out! Sprouts with Clout official facebook page.
