The ceremony started at 6:00 pm at Midway Presbyterian Church about 2 miles from my parents house. This church was built in 1833 and has seen countless weddings. I first saw this old, country church a couple years ago when we moved from Simpsonville to Anderson. We passed it at least 6 times in one day, and I told my Mama then that I wanted to get married there. There is just something about stained glass windows, an original white steeple, and cows grazing in the background that just seemed like the perfect southern church. In August, the oak trees kept the lawn shaded as the guests started to arrive, and the sun was shining into the vestibule as my dad and I started walking down the aisle.
Since the church is so small we decided to invite only family and close family friends. We had right at 100 guests attend the ceremony and reception, and the intimacy was exactly what I was looking for. Connor and I had a small wedding party and the chemistry between the bridesmaids and groomsmen was fantastic - new friendships were definitely blossoming!
The pastor who married us is Dr. Bennie Littlejohn of Eastland Baptist Church in Greenville, SC. It was very important to us that he participate in our wedding because he also married Connor's parents and other family members. Bennie has known Connor and his siblings their entire lives, so having him be a part of our special day just felt right. We also asked my aunt to sing the Lord's Prayer during the ceremony, and my uncle to read scripture from 1 Corinthians.
