Connor helped me pick out new restaurants to try, and we spent more time relaxing in the sand instead of being tourists. Fortunately, there are tons of things to do at Kiawah and the neighboring islands. This year we took advantage of Freshfields Village for shopping and ice cream at Jeni's. I also love the bagels at Java Java for a filling breakfast. Back on the island, we ate at Cherrywood BBQ & Ale House before sampling more ice cream at Inn Side Scoop. We enjoyed the menu at Cherrywood, but the golf course views were the star of the evening. Some more of our favorites are Red's Ice House and Ice Cream Boat over at Bohicket Marina. One night, we even led the whole crew over to Folly Beach Crab Shack for mounds of fresh seafood.
Halfway through the week, Connor and I ventured in to Charleston for brunch at Poogan's Porch before shopping on King Street. I'll be honest, Poogan's was my favorite meal of the trip; not even Kaminsky's could compete. I could eat those gravy biscuits for breakfast, lunch, & supper.
We went to the beach every day. Even if it rained in the morning, we spent the afternoon reading books and fishing in the surf. More than once, when the sky turned black, we went in for lunch and waited out the thunderstorms so we could enjoy just a few extra hours in the sun.
