Connor took a half day last Friday and we were off to the mountains around 2pm. We arrived in Helen just in time for check-in at Mountain Lakes Resort. Our condo has looked the exact same for all the years we've been going, so the floral wallpaper and wood-burning fireplace felt just like home. We spent the evening browsing downtown shops, eating dinner at The Troll Tavern, and buying a few groceries at Betty's.
On Saturday morning my parents drove over to meet us for lunch at the Old Bavarian Inn. After some more shopping, they headed back home and Connor and I decided to go to Dahlonega about 40 minutes away. We looked in all of the shops on the downtown square, and even caught a glimpse of Santa. On the way home we rode by Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland, which was one of my favorite places when I was a little girl. They hand make cabbage patch dolls at this toy store, but the plantation itself is so gorgeous it's worth the trip. As the sun started to fall, we made a quick trip into Nora Mill Granary for some cornmeal and made our way back to the condo for crock pot potato soup that my Mama sent with us. Connor built us a fire and we binge-watched HGTV for the rest of the evening.
By Sunday afternoon is was time to pack up and head back to the real world. We grabbed lunch at Western Sizzlin' in Cleveland, and then drove back home to Fountain Inn. I'm so thankful we were able to hide away for a few days during this busy season. Now we're off to spend precious time with family for Christmas & New Years!
